The fascinating online poker “durrrr Challenge” came off a twelve-day hiatus yesterday, with Patrik Antonius and Tom “durrrr” Dwan sitting down for a nearly four-hour session of $200/400 heads-up pot-limit Omaha. The high-stakes rivals put in another 842 hands of play on their way to 50,000, and for the third consecutive session, Antonius turned a profit. The $75,153 he took off Dwan yesterday expanded his total lead to $159,727, the largest lead either player has taken over the other for the…See More

William Hill Press Release

PRESS RELEASE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Thew To Capitalize On A Stellar 2008

Long gone are the days when being a professional gambler is viewed in a negative context. No more is it viewed as a sleazy profession. Today, poker professionals are held in high esteem with many holding celebrity status. They earn lucrative endorsement deals and have regular media presence through television, press and online. One such professional poker players is Julian Thew of Britain sponsored by William Hill Poker Club.

It was a very productive 2008 for Thew. He cashed in major tournaments no less than ten times including victories in the Deep Stack Extravaganza III in Las Vegas and the GUKPT Brighton Leg. These victories together with other cashes, saw his total tournament prize money for 2008 reach just under half a million dollars.

Since 2003, Thew has amassed some key wins, the biggest and most prestigious of which came back in 2007, with his victory in the EPT Baden Classic which netted him a nice pay cheque of € 670,800. Thew has also shown himself to be quite successful on the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour (GUKPT) taking out the Plymouth Leg in 2007 and the 2006 Grosvenor Grand Challenge in Luton. He currently sits second on the GUKPT All Time Ranking List and 24th overall on the EPT all time money list. His total tournament prize money exceeds $2.3 Million.

Julian Thew has been sponsored by William Hill Poker Club since 2004.

Poker & Pop Culture: Herbert O. Yardley’s ‘The Education of a Poker Player’ April 28, 2009, Martin Harris

There was a time, prior to the era ushered in by books like Super/System, Caro’s Book of Poker Tells, and The Theory of Poker, when poker’s place in popular culture was so marginal that an entire book devoted to poker strategy was hardly the stuff of popular demand. Unlike bridge, chess, or other games, poker was viewed by the cultural mainstream not so much as a skill-based test of players’ intellectual ability and psychological fortitude, but as just another form of gambling, only… Continue

Barry Greenstein interview from Poker News

The PokerNews Interview: Barry Greenstein, Part One

April 25, 2009, Martin Harris

Barry Greenstein

Barry Greenstein occupies a uniquely central position in the poker world today. As one who has made a living playing poker for several decades, Greenstein is often linked with the older generation of poker players, those with whom he’s intensely competed and forged friendships over the years. Yet he is also closely connected to the younger, post-“poker boom” group of players… Continue
